Phantom Job Seeker Uncovers another SPAM scam: Mike McCarthy and McSourcer Recruiting: Read How Phantom Did it.

Dan

Below is an example of an unsolicited email from a staffing agency that wants my resume, but doesn't have a job for me. The key signs:

  1. There is little to no personalization.  The little personalization there is says "Hi DeMaioNewton"  My name is Dan.  Using my last name is a sure tell, and we're only on the 2nd word!
  2. They say my resume was referred to them recently, but not who referred it and why.  Likely they bought resume search on Monster and have an automated resume capture process.
  3. They don't mention the job.
  4. The link goes to a registration page.
  5. There's an explicit call for me to contact them.
  6. There is an "unsubscribe" opportunity at the bottom.  Under the US SPAM laws, spam emailers must include an opt out option for people they send to.  Staffing spammers know this and comply so they don't get fined.

If you're still not convinced, do an email search on the company and Mike and spam or scam.  You'll find this link:  http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/jobscams/jobscams_mcsourcer.php
